My name is Grant, and I take pictures. I have been a hobbyist photographer for years, but in 2018 I started to take my photography more seriously as an art form. I needed an outlet in my life, and photography was it.
Twenty-eighteen was a pivotal year in my life. I found myself divorced and having just lost a campaign for my local city council. I had a lot more time on my hands, and no real direction. I needed something to do on the weekends I didn’t have my kids with me.
One weekend, I put a pin on the map, threw my camera gear in the car, and started to drive. I spent a long weekend in Zion National Park, hiking the Narrows and seeing some of the sights. I had brought my camera and on my trip up the narrows I met a few professional photographers along the way. I was taking similar pictures to them, it was the same subjects at the same time of day, but their pictures were so much better than mine. That lit a fire under me to start working to improve my photography.
I’m still learning how to take better pictures. I learn something new almost every time I take my camera out. But now I’m able to capture enough good images that I return from a photo expedition happy with the results, instead of just frustrated.
Since I’m out there taking pictures at least a few times a month, I’ve started to take video of my travels and photography. Go check them out!
